My name is Nick Cheolas, and I am the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner serving Single Member District 5E01 - the neighborhood of Edgewood north of Franklin, south and east of Michigan Ave., and west of the train tracks. Or, if you prefer landmarks, from the Brookland Metro Station, south to the Dew Drop Inn, and west to Trinity University.
What is an Advisory Neighborhood Commission, and what do Commissioners do?
An Advisory Neighborhood Commission is a neighborhood body made up of unpaid, locally-elected representatives called Commissioners. The ANCs' main job is to be their neighborhood's official voice on issues like development, transportation, zoning, sanitation, public safety, liquor licenses, and more. ANCs may also issue recommendations and pass resolutions on issues that affect everyday life in DC.
Commissioners are elected to two-year terms by the residents of a "Single Member District." Each Commissioner serves on a larger Commission with members elected by other nearby neighborhoods. For example, Nick serves on ANC "5E" and represents Single Member District "5E01." The boundaries of ANC5E include a number of Ward 5 neighborhoods, including Edgewood, Eckington, Bloomingdale, Truxton Circle, and Stronghold.
When does ANC5E meet?
